Should I Upgrade My I7 8700k

  1. How-do-you-do,

I like to game at high FPS, betwixt 144 - 240 in all games. But in some games i struggle to get 144, such equally COD Cold war and Gears five. So would I see a big improvement in FPS with a better CPU?

Is it worth upgrading my CPU now? Or should I look until DDR5 / next gen CPU'due south are released?

    Current specs:
    i7 9700k oc'd 4.90ghz
    Corsair 32GB 3600MHz (2x16gb)
    Asus maximus xi hero
    PNY RTX 3090
    Seasonic Focus GX 750W

    2x monitors:
    ROG Strix XG279Q 144hz 2560 x 1440
    HP Omen X 27 240hz 2560 x 1440

Happy to go Intel again or AMD, not a fanboy haha.

    Cheers

  2. Non worth it right now imo.
  3. y'all'd see some
    worth it - no
but you'll see comeback with a 10850k and faster ram or a 5800x

imo just agree on till zen4,you'll live with 120 instead of 144.

  4. Ah ok thanks guys.

I volition put the upgrade urge on hold:D and wait for Zen four

  5. Too would I need to upgrade my PSU if I inverse my CPU? As the TDP on the 9700k is only 95w.

for loftier FPS you volition run into quite huge improvment vs Intel . Difference at 1440p/4k AAA titles maxed out is none. But high fps gaming similar overwatch , Lol etc. Difference vs Intel is huge .
5600/5800X that is , upgrade to intel is worthless.

With chip shortages and the loftier prices right at present, stick with what you have if possible.
  8. Not really worth it :ten I mean if you have money to burn, certain, simply if you prefer beingness sensible, I'd wait until at least next gen AMD and Intel Alder Lake. AMD finally caught up IPC wise with the 5000 series (and this overall basically beats Intel at present) and Intel is struggling to squeeze every concluding ounce out of 14nm atm. If I had to get a new CPU now, it would probably be 5800X Ryzen or higher at minimum though.

Instead if you lot haven't done it yet, try and just squeeze every last ounce out of your current arrangement:

    • Can you clasp out 5Ghz instead of 4.9?
    • Have you lot tightened memory timings? (note: this is a flake of a tedious process though)

I was in the exact aforementioned situation as you.
To minimize the cost of the upgrade I simply upgraded the cpu to a 9900k for 320 and sold the old one for about 150.
Information technology works ameliorate than the 9700k gets less loaded merely as fps goes can't say I gained much or anything since none of my games get the cpu to 100%.

But ya if you lot want minimum investment and a decent 8/16 till next generation you tin go for a 9900k.
    It'south basically a 10700k rebranded (or viceversa).

    9900KF for 279 quid.

viii cores/ 8 threads at 4.9ghz, full apply of ram - must exist plenty.

Its a very good CPU. Any problems is a software/drivers problem.

I dont think toll to upgrade volition justify gains. Unless theres a console game going on PC or some unfinished game and theres a dying need for it.
